As the landscape of cannabis legalization evolves across various states, NORML's mission adapts to tackle emerging challenges, including consumer protection, industry regulation, social justice, and environmental issues.

OUR OPPORTUNITY

NORML's Board of Directors is in search of a visionary and proactive Chief Executive Officer to steer our national organization based in Washington, D.C., which encompasses numerous active chapters across the U.S. and internationally. NORML also engages in advocacy through an affiliated Political Action Committee, Legal Committee, and a 501(c)(3) Foundation. The Chief Executive Officer will be accountable for the financial sustainability and operational effectiveness of the organization while upholding NORML's reputation as a reliable source for accurate cannabis information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of NORML's Chief Executive Officer include fundraising and overseeing daily operations with staff. The ideal candidate will also showcase their capability to enhance NORML's relevance to cannabis consumers amidst a rapidly evolving cultural and political environment. This role involves close collaboration with the Board of Directors to lead fundraising initiatives and advocate for legislative reforms regarding federal and state marijuana policies. The Chief Executive Officer will represent NORML in various forums, including media appearances, legislative testimonies, and at conferences and conventions.

The Chief Executive Officer will also manage NORML's social media presence and devise strategies to enhance engagement while ensuring compliance with the legal requirements for 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. Additionally, the Chief Executive Officer will cultivate alliances and strategic partnerships with other advocacy groups focused on drug policy reform.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A profound understanding of the history of cannabis prohibition, current policies, and the political landscape both in the U.S. and internationally. The Chief Executive Officer should be adept at engaging with a diverse range of cannabis consumers and understanding their needs and values.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within nonprofit and volunteer organizations, including staff management. A proven track record in organizational development, budgeting, and fundraising is essential.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience in public policy advocacy, public relations, and grant writing. Proficiency in social media and experience in planning and executing public events and campaigns are also required.

EXPERIENCE

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated history of successful fundraising and organizational leadership. A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, along with ten or more years in nonprofit or public policy sectors, is preferred. Experience in cannabis or drug policy advocacy is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION

The compensation package includes a base salary ranging from $100,000 to $115,000 per year, commensurate with experience, along with benefits and performance-based incentive bonuses.
