Position Overview

Colas Inc. seeks a skilled attorney to enhance its in-house legal team. This role will primarily focus on providing legal counsel to the company's operating subsidiaries involved in infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will engage in various legal tasks, including the negotiation, drafting, and review of heavy highway construction contracts, as well as managing claims and overseeing litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate, draft, and review contracts related to heavy highway construction, including both public and private agreements.
  • Manage construction claims and general contract oversight.
  • Engage with alternative project delivery methods, including design-build and joint ventures.
  • Draft agreements related to aggregate extraction and other commercial transactions.
  • Oversee legal matters concerning real property assets, including leasing and compliance issues.
  • Provide timely legal and business advice to multiple operating companies.
  • Understand business drivers that influence legal matters and offer sound counsel on various topics.
  • Supervise litigation processes and coordinate with external legal counsel.
  • Conduct training sessions on construction-related legal topics.
  • Research and assess legal risks associated with business decisions.
  • Implement effective risk management strategies and provide proactive legal advice.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes impacting the industry.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in Alaska.
  • 5 to 12 years of experience in a relevant legal role, either in-house or with a reputable law firm.
