Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. As an Educational Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional program and providing assistance to certified staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist certified staff in delivering instructional programs and reinforcing material introduced by teachers.
  • Model and develop students' language and behavior.
  • Collect, prepare, and arrange resource materials for use by certified personnel.
  • Operate support equipment and monitor testing or make-up work by students.
  • Maintain classroom records, prepare reports, score tests, process books, manage supplies, and maintain classroom equipment as needed.
  • Monitor student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, lunchrooms, field trips, and bus loading areas.
  • Provide support for non-instructional classroom duties such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, and participating in teacher-parent conferences and meetings.
  • Reinforce the implementation of IEP goals using similar emphasis and techniques as classroom teachers.
  • Train students in self-help skills, including eating, toileting, hygiene, behavior management, and academic skills.
  • Assist with custodial skills of students, including lifting, positioning, and adaptive equipment maintenance using established procedures.
  • Escort students to other locations on campus and off campus with the approval of classroom teachers.
Requirements
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer systems, financial, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects, and coordinate the work of others.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience with educational equipment preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 48 college credit hours or pass the Paraprofessional Test.
