Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Attorney to serve as Counsel for the Virginia Division of Child Support Enforcement. As a key member of our team, you will provide representation and advice to the Division in cases before local courts, including Fairfax County, Arlington, and Alexandria.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Division of Child Support Enforcement of the Virginia Department of Social Services in its mission to determine paternity and establish, modify, and enforce support obligations.
  • Litigate in state and federal courts, providing counsel, legal services, and training to the Division regarding cases, program guidance, and procedure.
  • Develop and maintain open communication and positive relationships with the courts, cultivating and fostering a positive attorney-client relationship with the Division.
  • Perform administrative duties, supervising legal administrative assistants as assigned, and attending conferences, seminars, and continuing legal education.
  • Prepare and present training and informational programs and complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent litigation, organization, research, writing, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proficiency in time management and ability to work independently with client agency and as a team member are essential.
  • The optimal candidate will have significant litigation experience and the ability to prioritize the demands of a large caseload.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel.
  • Must be admitted to the Virginia bar.

Additional Considerations

Prior experience in representing a governmental entity is preferred but not required.
