Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Optical Design Engineer to join our team at Meta Inc. as an Optical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing optical components and systems for future AR and VR experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop optical components and systems for future AR and VR experiences.
  • Establish and document optical engineering specifications, including key performance metrics and test requirements for optical system and components.
  • Perform sensitivity and tolerance analysis aligned with industry supply chain and assembly partners capabilities.
  • Contribute to future optics technology roadmap and scope out New Technology Introduction (NTI).
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams and external industry partners to develop and mature state-of-the-art technologies.
Requirements
  • BS in Engineering, Physics, Optics or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of experience in developing optical systems with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) with proven track record of high-volume production.
  • Experience in opto-mechanical integration and system design.
  • Experience in physical optics lens design CAD tools such as Zemax or Code V.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of experience in research or advanced optics development.
  • Experience with design/manufacturing of small form-factor imaging systems.
  • Experience in non-sequential ray modeling tools such as FRED or LightTools.
  • Rapid prototyping experience (i.e. 3D printing, laser cutting, diamond-turning etc.).
