Role Overview

As a key member of the Hardware Test Engineering team, you will play a vital role in maintaining high-quality standards. Your primary responsibility will involve the design and implementation of systems for the calibration and performance validation of optical sensors. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of the testing system, from initial prototyping to full-scale deployment in production environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify automated systems for testing and calibrating optical and health sensors.
  • Model and simulate instrumentation errors, assessing measurement uncertainty in relation to product requirements.
  • Develop and refine test software using programming languages such as C/C++/Objective-C.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to define and implement comprehensive test strategies.
  • Analyze extensive sensor data to address engineering challenges through data-driven methodologies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for failures, troubleshooting from system-level issues down to individual components.
  • Enhance existing algorithms for improved performance and efficiency.
  • Balance engineering requirements with manufacturing efficiency while ensuring product integrity.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse group of expert engineers across various disciplines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience, including at least 1 year in the relevant sensing industry with a focus on sensor/system integration.
  • Experience with non-imaging optics, such as proximity and ambient light sensors.
  • Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and experience with light measurement techniques.
  • Background in Biomedical Engineering or Medical Sciences, with expertise in medical sensors and transducers.
  • Familiarity with handheld and wearable product design considerations.
  • Experience with validation and characterization methods for medical sensors.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including C/C++/Objective-C and scripting languages like Python.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
  • Ability to process data using tools like MATLAB or Python.
  • Preferred experience in high-volume consumer electronics calibration and testing.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Biomedical Engineering.

Compensation and Benefits

At Apple, base pay is just one part of our comprehensive compensation package. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in stock programs and receive a variety of benefits, including medical and dental coverage, retirement plans, and educational reimbursement.
