Salary Range

$4,000 per month ($48,000 annually). Salary is commensurate with experience.

Role Summary

Under the supervision of the Grounds Operations Manager, the Lead Groundsworker is responsible for overseeing grounds staff in performing essential gardening, maintenance, utility services, and landscape installation for housing facilities. This role includes executing general gardening and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan and organize work activities; prioritize and review assignments; offer guidance and support to team members in resolving technical and operational queries.
  2. Train staff and provide input on employee selection and performance evaluations.
  3. Manage watering, fertilizing, and pest control for plants and soil using various tools and equipment.
  4. Prepare and maintain soil, mulch, and gardens to ensure healthy and attractive landscapes.
  5. Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring functionality and efficiency.
  6. Conduct inspections to identify plant health issues and coordinate pest control efforts.
  7. Maintain records of work activities, including estimates and actual costs for time and materials.
  8. Operate and maintain various power equipment and tools to achieve optimal results.
  9. Install and maintain structures such as paving, fences, and retaining walls to ensure their integrity.
  10. Prepare athletic fields for events using appropriate tools and materials.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of methods, materials, and tools used in horticulture and grounds maintenance. Familiarity with common plant diseases, pests, and effective control methods.

Abilities: Capability to coordinate and oversee the work of others, provide training, and evaluate performance. Proficient in reading and writing at a level suitable for the role.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in horticulture or grounds maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Higher education and supervisory experience are preferred. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Required License/Certification

Valid California Driver's License, Class C; Class B may be required for tree trimming duties.

This position requires the successful completion of a background check. Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States within three business days of hire.
