About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tutor I to join our team at Johnson County Community College. As a Tutor I, you will play a critical role in supporting students in various Mathematics courses, providing guidance and assistance to help them achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tutor students in Mathematics courses, providing one-on-one support and guidance to help them understand complex concepts and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the Math Resource Center and Academic Affairs department, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress and problems, adhering to FERPA guidelines and keeping relevant staff informed.
  • Assist with daily center activities, including front desk coverage, student check-in and check-out, and maintaining a positive and organized center space.
  • Provide technical support to students, helping them troubleshoot computer problems and utilize computer software and web-based platforms.
  • Use the scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Participate in mandatory center training and other campus-wide training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least one year of college completed.
  • Successful completion of college-level Calculus 2 required.
  • Good communication skills, including listening and patience, are essential.
  • Ability to explain concepts and solve word problems in Mathematics, both orally and in written form, in one-to-one or small group settings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior tutoring experience is highly desirable.
