Job Title: Biology Tutor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Biology Tutor to join our team at Johnson County Community College. As a Biology Tutor, you will be responsible for providing academic support to students in various Biology courses, including BIOL 121 and lower-level courses.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to students in Biology courses.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the Academic Resource Center and outside resources with consultation from the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress and problems, adhering to FERPA guidelines.
  • Assist in daily center activities, cover the front desk, and ensure a positive and organized center space.
  • Assist students with computer systems and software, and help troubleshoot computer problems.
  • Use the scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules.
  • Participate in mandatory center training and campus-wide training opportunities.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma with successful completion of one year of undergraduate coursework in science and math, including General Biology, Cell Biology, and Microbiology.
  • One year of tutoring experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory techniques.
  • Good communication skills, including listening and patience.
  • Ability to explain Biology concepts orally and in writing in a one-to-one or small group setting.
