Position Overview:

The Lead Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the quality of nursing care within the oncology unit. This role involves the coordination of nursing activities, ensuring that patient care is delivered effectively and efficiently. The Lead RN will assess, monitor, and mentor nursing staff, implementing emergency protocols as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with all departments to maintain seamless patient care and operational efficiency.
  • Staff Management: Develop and manage the nursing schedule, ensuring adequate coverage during peak times and staff absences.
  • Training and Development: Supervise the onboarding process for new nursing staff and pharmacy technicians, evaluating their competencies and recommending further training or employment decisions.
  • Documentation: Ensure the timely completion of incident reports and necessary documentation for any events occurring within the unit.
  • Patient Education: Organize educational sessions for patients, ensuring that all materials are prepared and accessible.
  • Communication: Regularly check and respond to internal communications, acting as a resource for staff regarding policies and procedures.
  • Research Collaboration: Support clinical trials and maintain communication with research coordinators to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Special Treatments Coordination: Manage special chemotherapy procedures, ensuring all necessary medications and equipment are available during patient appointments.
  • Inventory Management: Work with the purchasing department to maintain adequate stock levels and oversee the ordering of medical supplies.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all relevant regulations and company policies, ensuring confidentiality and safety in patient care.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and ensure all equipment is functioning properly.
  • Flexibility: Be prepared to work at various locations as required by business needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily guidance and support to nursing staff, fostering a productive work environment.
  • Continuously evaluate operational processes and suggest improvements to enhance service delivery.
  • Establish and maintain procedures that align with company standards and objectives.
  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues to promote a collaborative work atmosphere.
  • Address employee concerns and provide coaching as necessary, in conjunction with the Head Nurse.
  • Keep the Head Nurse informed of significant issues and collaborate on resolutions.
  • Participate in the interview process for new hires, providing insights related to potential candidates.
  • Coordinate time-off requests while ensuring adequate staffing levels.
Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse with a valid state license.
  • OCN certification required within two years of employment.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in hematology/oncology settings.
  • Fluency in English with strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Current CPR certification and a valid driver's license for travel to clinics.
