Position Overview:
The Lead Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive nursing care and operational functions within the unit. This role includes coordinating unit activities, delegating tasks to nursing staff and pharmacy technicians, and providing guidance on patient care practices. The Lead Nurse will also implement emergency protocols as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure seamless patient care and efficient office operations.
- Staff Management: Develop and manage the schedule for nursing and pharmacy staff, ensuring adequate coverage during peak times and staff absences.
- Training and Development: Facilitate the onboarding process for new nursing and pharmacy personnel, evaluating their competencies and making recommendations for their continued employment or further training.
- Documentation: Ensure timely completion of incident reports and necessary documentation related to patient care.
- Patient Education: Organize educational sessions for patients, overseeing the preparation of materials for these classes.
- Communication: Regularly check and manage communications through internal email systems, ensuring all staff are informed of policy updates and clinical procedures.
- Research Support: Assist in clinical trials and collaborate with research coordinators to maintain high standards of patient care.
- Specialized Treatments: Coordinate unique chemotherapy procedures, ensuring all necessary medications and equipment are available for patient appointments.
- Inventory Management: Work with procurement to maintain adequate stock levels of medical supplies and medications, ensuring compliance with dispensing protocols.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to all applicable laws and regulations related to patient care, ensuring confidentiality and safety standards are upheld.
- Workplace Standards: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all equipment is functional and safe.
- Flexibility: Be prepared to assist at various locations as needed to support business operations.
- Provide daily guidance and support to nursing staff, fostering a productive and positive work environment.
- Continuously assess operational processes and implement improvements to enhance service delivery.
- Establish and maintain work procedures that align with company standards and strategic goals.
- Maintain effective working relationships with all staff to promote a collaborative atmosphere.
- Address employee concerns and collaborate with management to resolve issues effectively.
- Keep management informed of significant matters and collaborate on necessary actions.
- Participate in the recruitment process by providing insights on potential candidates.
- Coordinate time-off requests to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- OCN certification required within two years of hire.
- A minimum of two years of experience in hematology/oncology nursing in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Fluency in English with strong communication and leadership skills.
- Current CPR certification and a valid driver's license for travel between clinics.
