Position Overview:
The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is dedicated to enhancing the environment and safeguarding public health for all residents. With a robust workforce of nearly 6,000 employees, DEP manages a vast water supply system that includes 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes across a 2,000 square mile watershed.

Role Summary:
The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) is looking for an Environmental Engineer to join the Division of Capital Program Management (CPM). This division is tasked with the planning and oversight of capital projects aimed at improving the construction and rehabilitation of water and sewer systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing project requirements in collaboration with Operations and developing comprehensive project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Securing funding for necessary engineering services and managing project delivery in compliance with operational needs and regulatory standards.
- Engaging with various stakeholders, including city, state, and federal agencies, as well as consultants and contractors throughout all project phases.

Additional Duties:
- Coordinating the review and updates of specifications and standard drawings in collaboration with field operations and relevant agencies.
- Acting as a liaison with external organizations and participating in conferences and workshops.
- Preparing documentation such as memoranda, presentations, and reports related to capital and research projects.

Qualifications:
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer License and a minimum of four years of full-time experience in environmental engineering.
- A master's degree in environmental engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
- Candidates must possess strong project management skills, critical thinking abilities, and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A master's degree in environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering and at least three years of relevant experience in engineering design or project management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and GIS is highly desirable.
