Product Development Engineer

About the Role:

The Product Development Engineer will play a key role in designing, developing, and launching new products for high-volume production at Stoneridge. This position requires a strong understanding of engineering disciplines and practices, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new products that meet divisional goals and industry standards
  • Provide product engineering support to operations teams
  • Approve Material Discrepancy Reports, First Piece Approvals, and Internal Deviations
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by interfacing with Stoneridge and customer teams
  • Determine product requirements based on customer specifications and industry standards
  • Create and manage DFMEA documentation, including P-Diagrams and Block Diagrams
  • Provide design information to the CAD team for model and drawing creation
  • Plan and record the results of design and development test activities
  • Perform calculations, analysis, and demonstrations to ensure product performance requirements
  • Support compliance with APQP standards throughout the development process
  • Submit test plans and requests to the Engineering Test lab for successful testing and validation
  • Provide for and ensure the assembly, testing, and shipment of prototype samples
  • Review and approve feasibility and estimate D&D costs of new products
  • Initiate change requests and provide final review and approval for accuracy of changed prints, bills of material, and documents

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical engineering discipline
  • Four or more years of experience as an engineer involved in design and development of new products, or equivalent education and experience in related disciplines
  • Automotive industry experience and working knowledge of IATF and/or VDA standards and customer specific requirements
  • Working understanding of statistical process control, process capability analysis, Design of Experiments, Design for Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodology
  • Technical Experience:
    • Automotive market knowledge
    • Change Management experience
    • Creation/Updating of Bills of Material
    • DFMEA creation/updating
    • PPAP/APQP process
  • Systems:
    • 3D CAD competence
    • ERP/MRP knowledge
    • MS Office products
  • Proven high regard and behavior that exhibits integrity, purpose, positive change, and organizational contribution
  • References that verify individual takes responsibility and initiative, invests time wisely, is an effective thinker, exhibits strong emotional intelligence, utilizes effective communication skills, and builds productive relationships
  • Has proven experience evaluating and implementing new technologies

Location and Travel Requirements:

This role is based in Lexington, OH, but will require travel to support program launch activities and supplier evaluations, as necessary.
