Job Summary

The Plant Specialist is a key role within NRG Energy, responsible for providing advanced technical support for power plant operations. This position requires a high level of expertise in power plant systems and equipment, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support for electrical testing, inspection, repair, and development of technical solutions for in-service power generation components.
  • Conduct analysis and troubleshooting of plant equipment and systems to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Develop and implement technical solutions to improve plant efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Provide training and guidance to plant operations and maintenance personnel on technical procedures and best practices.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years technical training at an accredited university or technical institute and a minimum of 6 years experience in area(s) of specialization or High School diploma and 8 years experience in a power plant focused on operations, maintenance, or technical field.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of power plant systems and equipment in area(s) of specialization.
  • Ability to work effectively in in-plant environments and field site locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Co-generation plant experience preferred.
  • Combined Cycle GE 7EA operation and maintenance experience preferred.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with breakers, exciters, generators, transformers, pumps, fans, motors, switchgear, and miscellaneous electrical equipment.
  • Ability to use PC and associated software applications to collect and analyze data and produce spreadsheets, databases, and reports.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply applicable industry standards and codes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all individuals.
  • Ability to perform as a team member or leader in a cross-functional team environment and achieve consensus decisions.
Working Conditions
  • Work in an around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, hazardous chemicals, high noise areas, and elevations up to 100 feet.
  • Work in all temperatures and climatic conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
  • Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment.
  • Performance of duties requires response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
