Hawkins HR Consulting, LLC is currently looking for an Environmental Compliance Specialist - Air to join the HSES Department at a leading specialty chemical manufacturing facility. This position offers a 9/80 work schedule, allowing for a flexible work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary objective of this role is to ensure that the plant operations adhere to environmental standards set forth by local, state, and federal authorities.
- Oversee all aspects of air quality compliance across multiple operational units, with potential responsibilities in other environmental media.
- Interpret and enforce state and federal environmental regulations and compliance initiatives at both unit and site levels.
- Assist the air permitting team in the development of necessary permits and calculations for various environmental permits.
- Provide expert guidance during the Management of Change (MOC) process to maintain compliance with air permit conditions and regulatory limits.
- Integrate new regulatory changes into the operational framework of assigned units.
- Coordinate and conduct periodic stack testing to fulfill regulatory obligations.
- Support the preparation of Emission Inventory and Toxic Release Inventory reports.
- Lead the response efforts to audits and investigations conducted by regulatory agencies.
- Review and document incidents, calculate emissions, and ensure proper reporting to regulatory bodies.
- Conduct training sessions for operational staff on compliance requirements.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports as mandated.
- Perform field inspections and contribute to HSES initiatives.
- Collaborate with operational teams on projects aimed at continuous improvement.
- Be available for on-call and emergency support for plant operations.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred, though other engineering disciplines may be considered.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a chemical plant environment focusing on air compliance.
- At least 5 years of direct experience in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of Texas air permitting processes and federal environmental regulations applicable to the chemical sector.
- Proficient understanding of emission event regulations and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a plant setting and adhere to safety protocols.
- Minimal travel required, primarily for conferences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with data management systems relevant to environmental compliance.
- Familiarity with chemical batch processing.
- Knowledge of HRVOC and NOX Cap and Trade Programs.
- Understanding of air dispersion modeling.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $125,000 - $140,000 annually, based on experience, with bonus potential.
