Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant to become a vital part of our Sports/Joints Team.

The Physician Assistant in the Surgical Specialty - Non-Operative role is a licensed and certified healthcare provider who delivers direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is credentialed as an independent billing provider in accordance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations. The Advanced Practice Provider will offer medical services as defined by the supervising physician's scope of practice.

Surgical providers will cater to both adult and pediatric patients, specializing in various fields including General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Cosmetic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Trauma, Transplant, Urology, Plastics, and other surgical specialties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts thorough physical and mental assessments of patients through comprehensive examinations and medical history evaluations.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests to identify patient health needs.
  • Prescribes and recommends medical therapies and procedures, ensuring safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develops and implements patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with healthcare team members.
  • Provides counseling to patients and families regarding medical conditions, treatment options, and health promotion strategies.
  • Maintains detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes, initiating referrals when necessary.
  • Offers specialized consultation services related to the provider's expertise.
  • Manages patient care in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics.
  • Performs specific procedures as delegated by the supervising physician, within the scope of practice.
  • Conducts follow-up care for patients pre- and post-operatively, including hospital rounds and emergency department visits.
  • May be required to fulfill additional patient care responsibilities based on departmental needs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostic and treatment methodologies for human injuries and diseases.
  • Understanding of practices for the rehabilitation of physical and mental health issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.
  • Ability to create and implement effective patient treatment plans.
  • Capability to counsel patients on medical and psychological conditions.
  • Competence in interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in Texas.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM - Outpatient/Inpatient settings.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Less than one year of relevant experience.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
