Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Professional Manager is responsible for providing strategic direction and administrative oversight for Advanced Practice Professionals (APPs) within designated medical or surgical specialties at Baylor Scott & White Health System. This role is essential in ensuring that APPs are supported in their critical functions and achieve desired outcomes. The manager will also coordinate educational initiatives for APPs within the specified region and specialty.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees a team of APPs, including recruitment, onboarding, training, professional development, and performance evaluation, while collaborating closely with both physician and administrative leadership.
  • Works in conjunction with the APP Administrator to address any relevant APP-related matters.
  • Delivers patient care under the supervision of the designated physician or supervising staff physician.
  • Conducts patient interviews and examinations to identify symptoms and maintains comprehensive patient records.
  • Executes thorough examinations and necessary medical screening processes, ensuring accurate documentation in patient files.
  • Assists in developing diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up plans as appropriate.
  • Interprets laboratory results and orders necessary tests while adhering to established protocols. Monitors patient progress and communicates findings to the supervising physician.
  • Engages with patients, supervising physicians, and other caregivers to relay critical information that may impact patient care, including preparing clinical progress notes and adhering to health system policies.
  • Encourages optimal utilization of APPs across the region or specialty.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations governing APPs.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission standards related to APP practice in healthcare settings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse medical staff; excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
  • Analytical skills to gather information from various sources, apply professional principles in analysis, and summarize data to resolve issues or design complex systems.
  • Ability to mentor, guide, and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining valid licensure and credentialing requirements.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, Electronic Health Records, and standard office software.
  • Awareness of national and state APP issues, with a preference for active involvement in professional organizations.
  • Knowledge of current institutional policies, bylaws, and credentialing standards is preferred.
  • Demonstrated self-direction and initiative.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position does not require on-call duties, weekend work, or travel. The role consists of approximately 90% clinical responsibilities and 10% administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION: Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

- EXPERIENCE: At least three years of professional experience.

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer. Must be credentialed as a provider within the BSWH system and employed in an APP role.
