Position Overview

The Department of Pediatrics at Children's Mercy Hospital is in search of an innovative and scholarly leader to take on the role of Division Director for Pediatric Nephrology. This individual will spearhead a distinguished team of clinicians, researchers, and educators who collectively represent a program that is widely acknowledged as one of the leading Pediatric Nephrology Divisions in the country.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will bring a visionary approach to advancing pediatric nephrology, aiming to enhance a program that has been recognized among the Top Ten Best Pediatric Nephrology programs for twelve consecutive years by a reputable national publication.

The Division encompasses a comprehensive outpatient clinical service, managing over 8,000 visits each year, which includes specialized clinics focused on hypertension, bone and mineral disorders, and genetic conditions. Additionally, it features a nationally acclaimed end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) program that offers home hemodialysis and a transplant program noted for its exceptional graft survival rates.

Other significant clinical components include an active acute kidney injury initiative, co-led by Nephrology and Critical Care Medicine, as well as a collaborative transition program with nephrologists at affiliated adult hospitals. The Division is supported by a robust team of eleven nephrology faculty members, along with dietitians, social workers, psychologists, transplant coordinators, nurse practitioners, research nurses, and child life specialists, all dedicated to nephrology.

Research and Education

The Division boasts a long-standing ACGME accredited pediatric nephrology fellowship program and a diverse research portfolio that includes basic, translational, and clinical research initiatives, supported by both internal and external funding sources. Research areas encompass chronic kidney disease/ESKD, bone and mineral disorders, nephrotic syndrome, and genetics, facilitated by a dedicated pediatric nephrology research laboratory.

The institution supports a wide array of learners, including medical students, residents, and fellows, and offers numerous fellowship programs across various pediatric subspecialties.

Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent with board certification in Pediatric Nephrology
  • Current academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Proven track record of clinical and academic excellence
