Position Overview

The Department of Pediatrics at Children's Mercy Hospital is in search of an innovative and scholarly leader to take on the role of Division Director of Pediatric Nephrology. This individual will guide a distinguished team of clinicians, researchers, and educators who collectively form a program that is recognized nationally as one of the leading Divisions of Pediatric Nephrology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership to advance the field of pediatric nephrology.
  • Enhance the Division's reputation, which has been acknowledged as a Top Ten Best Pediatric Nephrology program.
  • Oversee a comprehensive outpatient clinical service that accommodates over 8,000 visits annually, including specialized clinics.
  • Manage a nationally recognized end-stage kidney disease program, including home hemodialysis and a successful transplant program.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve clinical outcomes and patient care.

Clinical and Research Excellence

The Division features a robust clinical service with a focus on acute kidney injury and a collaborative transition program with adult nephrologists. The team consists of eleven nephrology faculty members, dietitians, social workers, and a variety of nursing and support staff, all dedicated to nephrology.

The Division also boasts a long-standing ACGME accredited pediatric nephrology fellowship program and a strong research portfolio, supported by both internal and external funding. Research areas include chronic kidney disease, genetic disorders, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • MD or equivalent with board certification in Pediatric Nephrology.
  • Current academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Proven track record in clinical practice, medical education, and research.
  • Commitment to fostering young clinicians and promoting a culture of accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
