Position Summary

As the Chief of People Operations, you will act as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing all facets of human resources management within UWGKC. Reporting directly to the Vice President of People and Operations, your expertise in HR management will be vital in cultivating a thriving, diverse, and agile United Way by developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that attract, retain, and nurture top talent while fostering a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

HR Strategy and Planning

  • Assist in formulating and executing HR strategies that align with UWGKC's short and long-term objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of People and Operations to synchronize HR goals with overall business aims.
  • Develop and enforce HR policies and procedures that encourage fairness, transparency, and employee satisfaction.

Talent Acquisition and Onboarding:

  • Oversee and facilitate the talent acquisition process, ensuring the recruitment of high-caliber candidates across all departments, including job postings, resume evaluations, interviews, and selections.
  • Innovate sourcing strategies and cultivate a robust talent pipeline.
  • Implement effective onboarding programs to successfully welcome and integrate new employees.

Employee Development and Engagement:

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, growth, and career advancement.
  • Identify organizational training needs and coordinate programs to address skill gaps and enhance employee development.
  • Monitor training participation and assess the effectiveness of training initiatives.
  • Administer annual employee engagement surveys and develop strategies to improve job satisfaction and retention.

Performance Development and Training:

  • Implement and refine performance development systems to provide ongoing feedback and opportunities for growth.
  • Support managers in conducting regular performance discussions and establishing performance objectives.
  • Track performance metrics and identify areas for enhancement or development.
  • Address performance-related challenges and facilitate appropriate action plans.

Internal Communication & Monthly Staff Meetings:

  • Develop and execute effective internal communication strategies that align with organizational goals and culture, fostering employee engagement and alignment.
  • Create and distribute weekly staff newsletters.
  • Manage internal communication channels, ensuring timely dissemination of information while utilizing appropriate channels for various message types.
  • Coordinate all aspects of monthly staff meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and technology setup.

Compensation, Payroll, and Benefits Administration:

  • Collaborate with third-party HR vendors to manage benefits, HRIS configuration, data entry, and maintenance, ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee records.
  • Assist in designing and administering competitive compensation and benefits packages.
  • Accurately collect, verify, and process employee timekeeping data to ensure timely payroll processing.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and conduct regular benchmarking to maintain competitiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant compensation laws and regulations.

Employee Relations and Legal Compliance:

  • Act as a trusted and impartial point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, providing guidance and support as necessary.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints or grievances, maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Ensure adherence to labor laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel when necessary to mitigate legal risks.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):

  • Champion DEI initiatives and cultivate an inclusive and diverse workplace by collaborating with our internal DEI Committee to achieve annual goals and priorities.
  • Develop strategies to attract, retain, and promote a diverse workforce.

HR Metrics and Analytics:

  • Implement HR analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to inform decisions and drive improvements.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

8+ years of experience in progressively responsible HR/operations leadership roles.

Strong knowledge of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations.

Excellent business acumen with the ability to align HR strategies with business objectives.

Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Experience in talent acquisition, employee development, and performance management.

Proven track record in implementing successful DEI initiatives and enhancing organizational culture.

Experience in a nonprofit environment is advantageous.
