About the Job

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Chief of Staff. This is an exciting opportunity to manage the department's operations, finances, human resources, and facilities, working in collaboration with and at the direction of department leadership as we pursue strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing departmental budget, approving departmental spending, serving as the primary financial contact from the department for the College, and implementing controls and procedures to ensure efficient and responsible use of resources. They will also analyze financial data, generate reports, manage external grants, ensure departmental records and data are stored and maintained appropriately, and assist the department head with long-range planning and strategic resource allocation.

Human Resources

The Chief of Staff will serve as the primary department resource for University, Collegiate, and departmental human resource policies, procedures, and practices. They will coordinate or oversee searches, onboarding, and transition processes for faculty, visiting scholars, and staff, supervise administrative staff, and facilitate the hiring process for all personnel within the department.

Facilities

The successful candidate will serve as the primary building space representative, help the department head allocate departmental space, ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and faculty, and implement a building emergency plan. They will also oversee remodeling projects, acquire and allocate capital equipment, and oversee door access and key control for departmental spaces.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of work experience related to this position. They will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, discretion, integrity, and the ability to maintain/enforce confidentiality of sensitive information. Experience with managing organizational resources, operations, policies, and/or people, as well as using spreadsheet and word processing software, is also required.
