Position Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Arlington, VA

Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • 5 years of experience in outsourced financial management
  • 5 years of experience managing multiple client accounts simultaneously
In-depth understanding of nonprofit financial practices and adherence to US GAAP standards.
Experience with monthly financial close processes is essential.
Proficient in preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts, as well as generating financial statements.
Experience in preparing audit documentation is required.
Collaborates with auditors and provides necessary information for tax compliance and registration.
Experience in assisting with the preparation of Form 990, charitable registrations, and other tax filings as needed by clients.
Familiarity with large ERP systems and advanced skills in MS Office, particularly MS Excel.
Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting software is preferred; QuickBooks Desktop experience is acceptable.
CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required; a Master's Degree is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
Accountable for the precision of client financial reporting. This role collaborates with a team of internal accountants and client personnel to generate regular financial reports.
Ensures the integrity of the accounting system, supervises all journal entries, and establishes efficient accounting procedures.
Oversees the monthly close process, including journal entry preparation, account reconciliation, and the production and distribution of financial statements, ensuring timely completion.

Works closely with client Development and Program teams to create and maintain tools and processes for tracking, reporting, and reconciling financial records and transactions.

Monitors all restricted funding, ensuring accurate reporting to funders and budget-to-actual forecasting for client organizations.

Collaborates with the internal client accounting team to address known and emerging needs, such as grant reporting, payroll tracking, and compliance with new payroll regulations.

Keeps thorough records of reports and documentation of procedures.
Prepares audit schedules, liaises with auditors, and compiles information for tax compliance and registration.
Assists in the preparation of information for Form 990, charitable registrations, and other tax returns as requested by clients.
