Overview:
The primary role of this position is to act as the Flight Management Specialist for the Pacific Air Forces, serving as the central figure in the Integrated Flight Management (IFM) process.
This position is accountable for comprehensive flight planning, coordination, management, and oversight of unconventional and intricate Special Airlift Missions (SAM), Special Assignment Airlift Missions (SAAM), Aeromedical Evacuations, and Tanker Air Refueling operations. These efforts are in direct support of mission requirements validated by USTRANSCOM, USPACOM, PACAF, and Air Tasking Orders (ATO).
This role plays a crucial part in supporting national objectives, fulfilling the requirements of the National Command Authority, and aligning with the intents of the Department of Defense (DOD), non-DoD agencies, and Joint/Combined Forces Air Component Commanders (JFACC or CFACC) on a continuous, global basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts meticulous flight planning.
- Monitors and follows assigned missions through to completion.
- Addresses operational challenges impacting unconventional and complex mission segments, assessing the implications of delays or cancellations.
- Keeps senior staff members informed of the current and projected status of assigned missions.
- Acts as a principal subject matter expert, providing guidance to senior staff on various airlift and air refueling operational matters.
- Develops, analyzes, and maintains metrics related to air transportation.
Work Requirements:
This position involves shift work. During contingency operations, the incumbent may be required to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays. Additionally, the role may necessitate being on-call to support global operations and urgent, high-priority missions.
The responsibilities of this position are classified as category 4, meaning it is essential and cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without significantly impairing the operational capacity of the parent Federal Agency.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level or equivalent in other pay systems.
Examples of Specialized Experience Include:
- Demonstrated expertise in the transportation functions relevant to this position, along with a thorough understanding of PACAF and AMC command and control operations.
- Extensive knowledge of global air transportation operations, plans, policies, and missions.
- Understanding of aircraft performance capabilities and limitations, including range, fuel requirements, configuration, loading, takeoff data, and weight restrictions.
- In-depth knowledge of flight operations, instrument flight rules, Federal Aviation Regulations, and international airway routes.
