Position Overview:

The Nutritional Services Assistant is responsible for various food service tasks, ensuring that all food service areas, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. This role includes assisting in food preparation and serving meals according to dietary guidelines tailored for both standard and specialized diets. Qualifications for Nutritional Services Assistant:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, or completion of a technical program.
  • Ability to work independently while managing meal service for a group of residents.
  • Previous experience in food service is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities for Nutritional Services Assistant:

  • Prepare, transport, and serve meals for residents, guests, and staff.
  • Assemble meals according to the established menu using standardized recipes.
  • Ensure proper portion sizes and presentation of food items.
  • Support kitchen staff as needed and perform additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
  • Maintain adequate food preparation and service levels.
  • Notify the supervisor of any shortages or supply issues.
  • Ensure all food served meets freshness and temperature standards.
  • Keep accurate records and logs required for meal services.
  • Prepare workstations for the next shift by stocking and cleaning.
  • Adhere to food rotation and sanitation protocols.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any malfunctions to the executive chef.
  • Deliver and collect food carts from various service areas.
  • Set up service lines and prepare for meal service.
  • Wash, sanitize, and store kitchen utensils and dishes appropriately.
  • Monitor and manage the use of cleaning supplies in dishwashing processes.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks as per established guidelines.
  • Conduct inventory and restock food and supplies in service areas.
  • Prepare snacks and beverages for residents between meals.
  • Foster a positive atmosphere that promotes teamwork and collaboration.
  • Engage positively with residents, family members, and guests.
  • Understand and respect resident rights, ensuring a dignified and safe environment.
  • Follow safety protocols, including universal precautions and emergency procedures.
  • Inspect and clean kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure functionality and cleanliness.
  • Present a professional appearance by adhering to uniform standards.
  • Maintain a positive attitude that enhances team morale and productivity.

Work Environment:

This role requires prolonged periods of standing and effective communication with team members. Employees must be able to perform tasks that involve sitting, standing, walking, and using hands for various activities. Reading, writing, and speaking fluent English is necessary. The position may require lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and involves bending, reaching, and climbing. The work environment is moderately noisy, and occasional travel between locations may be necessary.
