Definition

Under the supervision of a licensed dietitian, this role involves assisting in the delivery of comprehensive nutritional services to program participants.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide detailed information about the program to potential and current participants.

2. Conduct nutritional assessments, including height/weight measurements, hemoglobin levels, and dietary history evaluations.

3. Educate participants on appropriate nutritional intake and encourage adherence to dietary recommendations.

4. Determine suitable food packages based on participants' dietary history and nutritional assessments.

5. Promote breastfeeding through education and support initiatives.

6. Develop self-education modules and organize nutritional education programs or classes under the guidance of the dietitian.

7. Update informational materials and maintain an inventory of supplies.

8. Participate in training sessions to stay informed about advancements in nutrition and dietetics.

9. Distribute educational materials to outreach and community service organizations to enhance community awareness of nutritional programs.

10. Refer participants to community agencies for additional nutritional and health care support.

11. Plan menus according to established guidelines.

12. Assist individuals with food selection, preparation, and menu planning based on their nutritional needs.

13. Schedule and manage client appointments, including rescheduling missed sessions.

14. Maintain accurate records of client interactions.

15. May perform administrative duties within a clinic setting as required.

16. Participate in breastfeeding committees and related meetings as needed.

17. Communicate effectively with participants who may have limited English proficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Valid registration as a Dietetic Technician with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

2. A Verification Statement indicating completion of an accredited dietetics program may be accepted as a substitute.

3. Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

4. Proficiency in a language other than English may be required for some positions.
