Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a Major in the target foreign language
  • Certification of Tuberculin Skin Test indicating freedom from contagious tuberculosis
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid Virginia Teaching Certificate
  • Ability to perform considerable walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting within a classroom and laboratory setting
  • Proficient knowledge of the subject matter to be taught
  • Advanced communication skills in the Foreign Language, adhering to ACTFL oral proficiency standards
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching methodologies and principles
  • Familiarity with techniques, activities, and strategies suitable for secondary school foreign language instruction

Job Responsibilities:

  • This role involves specialized teaching duties conducted in a classroom environment, focusing on Foreign Language education (including Latin, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, or Russian)
  • Tasked with inspiring students to achieve proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language
  • Responsible for creating lesson plans that align with Foreign Language Standards of Learning
  • Provides tailored instruction in individual or small group settings to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Establishes and upholds standards of student behavior to foster a conducive learning atmosphere
  • Assesses student progress and maintains necessary documentation
  • Engages in professional development through in-service training and self-directed growth opportunities
  • Participates in curriculum development initiatives, communicates with parents, and engages in faculty committees and student activities
  • Collaborates with school leadership in evaluations as per district guidelines
