Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with a Major in the target foreign language
  • Certification confirming freedom from contagious tuberculosis
  • Possession of or eligibility for an appropriate Virginia Teaching Certificate
  • Ability to engage in a significant amount of walking, bending, standing, stooping, and lifting within a classroom and laboratory setting
  • Expertise in the subject matter to be taught
  • Proficiency in communicating in the Foreign Language at an advanced level as per ACTFL oral proficiency standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and principles
  • Familiarity with techniques, activities, and strategies suitable for teaching foreign languages at the secondary school level

Job Responsibilities:

  • This role involves specialized teaching within a classroom environment, concentrating on Foreign Language instruction (including but not limited to French, Spanish, Latin, German, Japanese, or Russian)
  • Tasked with inspiring students to achieve proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language
  • Responsible for crafting lesson plans that align with Foreign Language Standards of Learning
  • Provides tailored instruction to individuals or small groups to meet diverse learning needs
  • Establishes and upholds standards of student behavior to foster a productive educational atmosphere
  • Assesses student progress and maintains necessary records
  • Commits to professional development through in-service training and self-directed educational activities
  • Engages in curriculum development, communicates with parents, and participates in faculty committees and student initiatives
  • Collaborates with school leadership in evaluations according to district protocols
