When you become part of Knight Nation, you contribute to our mission of evolving into a university for the future.

You'll find opportunities to connect and collaborate with exceptionally talented faculty, staff, and students across 13 colleges and various campuses and regional locations.

The Opportunity
Decarbonization stands as one of the most critical issues for a sustainable future that humanity must confront.

The global shift towards a low-carbon economy is evident, with over 110 countries and 200 of the world's largest corporations committing to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

As a pioneer in Decarbonized Energy or Zero Carbon Energy (ZCE), the University of Central Florida (UCF) is dedicated to facilitating this transition through the ZCE initiative.

This initiative encompasses the decarbonization of aerospace operations and must also take into account cryogenics, as hydrogen may necessitate cryogenic conditions for efficient storage.

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for multiple 9-month, full-time faculty roles at the ranks of assistant professor (tenure track), associate professor (tenured), or professor (tenured) with core faculty status in the Center for Advanced Turbomachinery and Energy Research (CATER).

The positions cover various technical fields, including but not limited to:

  • Rotordynamics and vibration;
  • Reactive flow systems, chemical transport;
  • Hydrogen - flow, leakage, handling;
  • Connected buildings and communities;
  • Computational flow/thermal/structural for urban air mobility;
  • Cryogenic systems - design, analysis, and testing (with potential for joint appointment with the Department of Physics).

The ideal candidates will operate at the intersection of the relevant research areas associated with the aforementioned themes. They are expected to have a significant research impact, as evidenced by high-quality publications, and the capability to establish a funded and sustainable research program.

Prior experience as a full-time researcher at a national laboratory or large interdisciplinary research center is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned doctoral degree or foreign equivalent from an accredited institution in a relevant area related to mechanical or aerospace engineering at the time of appointment.

The selected candidates must also possess a record of impactful research in related fields, demonstrated by a robust scholarly portfolio.

To qualify for appointment as a tenured associate professor or tenured professor upon hire, the selected candidate must have a proven record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at that rank.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in directing and securing externally sponsored research in the respective areas.
  • Prior experience as a full-time researcher at a national laboratory or large interdisciplinary research center.
  • Previous experience in a national laboratory and/or industry.
  • A history of collaboration with teams, particularly those spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Meaningful post-doctoral experience.
Additional Application Materials Required:

UCF requires all applications and supporting documents to be submitted electronically through the Human Resources employment opportunities website.

In addition to the online application, candidates should upload a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae, and a list with contact information for three (3) professional references.
