The Opportunity

The University of Central Florida (UCF) is committed to enhancing its academic and research capabilities through interdisciplinary collaboration. Established in 2015, UCF has created six innovative clusters aimed at bolstering its educational offerings.

The Renewable Energy and Chemical Transformations (REACT) cluster is actively seeking exceptional candidates for the role of Assistant Professor (tenure-earning) or Associate Professor (tenured), depending on their experience and accomplishments.

This 9-month faculty position will leverage our existing strengths in catalysis science and engineering, which encompass expertise in areas such as:

  • Ab initio theory
  • Ultrafast and electron spectroscopies
  • Nanocatalyst synthesis
  • Homogeneous catalysis
  • Electrocatalysis

We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong background in fundamental research in the following domains:

  • Heterogeneous catalysis
  • Catalytic synthesis of fuels
  • Plasmonic catalysis
  • Catalysts for wastewater remediation

Faculty members in these interdisciplinary roles will be expected to contribute significantly to both the research cluster and their respective tenure home departments, which may include physics, chemistry, or materials science and engineering. This position offers a unique opportunity for individual and collaborative research initiatives, supported by a robust infrastructure and startup resources.

The selected faculty member will benefit from a dedicated interdisciplinary mentoring team designed to foster intellectual growth and enhance the cluster's success. Candidates will have the flexibility to choose their tenure home department with mutual consent.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, or a related field. A proven track record of securing competitive research funding and demonstrated leadership in research and interpersonal skills is essential.

Experience Requirements:
Assistant Professor: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
Associate Professor: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong record of teaching, research, and service appropriate to their rank within the tenure department.

Preferred Qualifications:
Research Experience:
Assistant Professor: Four (4) years of high-level research experience.
Associate Professor: Six (6) years of high-level research experience.
A consistent record of impactful publications is also preferred.
