Job Overview

Compensation: Line Worker $45.51, Apprentice Line Worker $29.83

Status: Open Until Filled

Position Summary: This role involves either an apprentice training position or a Line Worker position within the Electrical department. The primary responsibility is to assist in the reconstruction, installation, and maintenance of electrical and fiber optic lines within the service area. Candidates may be hired as either an Apprentice Line Worker or a Line Worker based on their qualifications. The employee is expected to fulfill job requirements and training for each level within the apprentice program, performing increasingly responsible line work as they progress.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the installation and pulling of overhead and underground primary and secondary wires, including tasks such as digging ditches, installing switches, and wiring transformers.
  • Provide ground support during the installation of electrical lines and services, with advanced levels assisting in live electrical work.
  • Support the installation of transformers, reclosers, and capacitors on power poles, with more complex tasks at higher apprentice levels.
  • Operate various equipment such as tractors, backhoes, and bucket trucks, according to skill level.
  • Assist in the replacement and installation of power poles and related components affected by environmental conditions.
  • Participate in the installation and wiring of underground transformers and related equipment.
  • Repair and install street lighting systems.
  • Monitor the work of ground support personnel during operations as assigned.
  • Assist in locating and repairing underground lines, including splicing tasks.
  • Maintain and inspect line repair equipment and safety gear.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including job orders and material lists.
  • Be available for on-call duties and respond to outages as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Weight must not exceed 280 lbs due to safety equipment limitations.
  • Completion of a formal apprentice line worker program with at least four years of verifiable experience.
  • Valid Georgia Class A commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground line work, including safety methods for working with live lines.
  • Ability to work at heights and climb poles safely.
  • Basic math skills for job-related calculations.
  • Effective communication skills for technical assistance and training.
  • Ability to read and interpret job orders and blueprints.
  • Certifications in flagging, First Aid, CPR, and ITS within the probationary period.
