Position Summary: This role is classified as an 'at will' training position for an Apprentice Line Worker or a Line Worker within the Electrical department. The primary responsibility involves assisting in the reconstruction, installation, and maintenance of electrical and fiber optic lines within the service area.

The position allows for candidates to be appointed as either an Apprentice Line Worker or a Line Worker, contingent upon their qualifications. Employees are expected to fulfill job requirements and training for each level within the apprentice program, progressing to more complex line work as they advance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the installation and pulling of overhead and underground primary and secondary wiring.
  • Provide ground support for the installation of electrical services and meters, including transferring live electrical lines under supervision.
  • Support the installation of transformers, reclosers, and capacitors on power poles.
  • Operate equipment such as tractors, backhoes, and bucket trucks as per skill level.
  • Assist in the replacement and installation of power poles and related components.
  • Support the installation and wiring of underground transformers and switching equipment.
  • Repair and install street lighting systems.
  • Monitor the work of ground support staff during operations.
  • Assist in locating and repairing underground power lines.
  • Maintain and inspect line repair equipment and safety gear.
  • Complete necessary documentation including job orders and material lists.
  • Participate in on-call duties on a rotating schedule, ensuring timely response to outages.
  • Perform additional related tasks as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Weight must not exceed 280 lbs due to equipment safety requirements.
  • Completion of a formal apprentice line worker program with at least four years of verifiable experience.
  • Valid Georgia Class A commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground line work, including transformers and fault locating.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols for working with live electrical lines.
  • Ability to climb poles and work at various heights safely.
  • Basic math skills for job-related calculations.
  • Effective communication skills for technical assistance and training.
  • Understanding of relevant codes and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications within the initial employment period.
