This position offers an 'at will' apprentice training opportunity or a Line Worker role within the Electrical department, focusing on the reconstruction, installation, and maintenance of electrical and fiber optic lines in the service area. Candidates may be considered for either the Apprentice Line Worker or Line Worker roles based on their qualifications. The employee is expected to fulfill job requirements and training for each level within the apprentice line worker program, advancing to more complex line work as they progress.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the installation and pulling of overhead and underground primary and secondary wires; engage in digging operations; and aid in the installation of switches or capacitor banks.
  • Provide ground support during the installation of electrical lines, residential and commercial services, and meters. More advanced levels will assist in transferring live electrical primaries and wiring transformers while operating aerial equipment or climbing poles as necessary.
  • Support the installation of transformers, reclosers, capacitors, and related components on power poles, with advanced assignments involving single-phase transformers and constructing three-phase transformer banks.
  • Operate equipment such as tractors, backhoes, and bucket trucks according to skill level, including digging operations with line trucks.
  • Assist in the replacement and installation of power poles and anchors damaged by environmental factors or accidents.
  • Support the installation and wiring of underground transformers and switching cubicles.
  • Engage in the repair and installation of overhead and underground street lighting.
  • Monitor the work of ground support personnel during ongoing projects as assigned.
  • Assist in locating and repairing underground primary and secondary lines, including splicing operations.
  • Maintain and inspect power line repair equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Complete necessary documentation, including job order forms, material lists, and timecards.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, maintaining availability for emergency responses.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Weight must not exceed 280 lbs. due to safety equipment limitations.
  • Completion of a formal apprentice line worker program with a minimum of four years of verifiable experience, along with passing all sections of the comprehensive line worker test within the initial employment period.
  • Meet all job qualification standards as outlined by relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Possess a valid Georgia Class A commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of overhead and underground line work, including transformers and capacitor banks.
  • Understand safety methods and equipment for working with live electrical lines.
  • Ability to work at heights and climb poles safely.
  • Basic math skills for job-related calculations.
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with supervisors and engineers.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Valid certifications in flagging, First Aid, and CPR, or willingness to obtain within the testing period.
  • Ability to achieve ITS certification within the testing period.
