Job Summary

The Director of Merchandising and Procurement is a key member of the senior leadership team at Lowe's, responsible for leading the merchandising, procurement, and marketing functions of the organization. This role will oversee a dynamic team of procurement professionals, merchandising product managers, and creative services personnel to develop strategic plans and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Strategic Initiatives: Develop and execute marketing, merchandising, and purchasing programs nationally, assessing department structure and building to accommodate the needs of a growing business.
  • Drive Sales Growth: Develop a creative direction and strategies to drive sales, ensuring the translation of those strategies to the successful execution of marketing plans to achieve sales and inventory goals.
  • Execute Seasonal Events: Execute on key seasonal events, counter-attack strategies, collateral, pricing, and promotion strategies to drive business results.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Coordinate with Sales & Operations leaders to understand the needed tools to execute marketing plans and drive business growth.
  • Identify Competitive Trends: Recognize and surface competitive trends to target key industry and local market opportunities.
  • Manage Procurement Risks: Identify and manage procurement risks to minimize negative impacts on organizational objectives while encouraging opportunities.
  • Establish Performance Standards: Establish performance standards and evaluation processes to assess and report on procurement activity in terms of progress, results, customer satisfaction, value, and cost.
  • Manage Budgets: Budget management for categories under management and for procurement itself.
  • Develop Vendor Relationships: Ensure the merchandising team proactively identifies new potential vendor relationships, maintains existing vendor relations, successfully negotiates profitable contracts, and holds vendors accountable to agreed service levels.
  • Utilize Financial Reporting: Utilize financial reporting to understand specific levers that influence the P&L and ensure long-term financial goals are met.
  • Develop Staff Skills: Manage the skills and competency development of staff, including training and development and knowledge management capabilities.
  • Align with Company Strategies: Ensure alignment with Lowe's merchandising and marketing strategies and execute opportunities to bring Lowe's capabilities to MSH customers.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. MBA is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: 8 to 10 years of merchandising experience, wholesale distribution preferred.
  • P&L Management: 5 to 7 years P&L management and accountability for increasing revenue and driving profitability.
  • Leadership Experience: 5 years Experience with leading a team with an emphasis on development, accountability, and delivering business results.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel frequently to manage staff at other locations and attend marketing functions, 15% travel requirement.
