Job Description:

The Seasonal Sales Associate at Brown University's University Bookstore will provide exceptional customer service and support in a fast-paced retail environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Greeting and assisting customers with book and merchandise selections
  • Processing sales at the point of sale terminals with a focus on customer satisfaction
  • Assisting in stocking and merchandising the sales floor, maintaining a neat and organized environment
  • Providing assistance with location and selection of merchandise
  • Using software to look up merchandise in the Point of Sale system
  • Assisting customers in the store as needed, including the Trade floor, customer service counter, and Campus shop
  • Filling in and alphabetizing sections that need to be straightened on a daily basis
  • Helping to arrange attractive and appealing merchandise displays on the sales floor
  • Keeping the register area supplied with bags and other supplies, notifying the supervisor when supplies are low
  • Initiating cleaning and stocking on the sales floor as needed
  • Prising and shelving merchandise
  • Unpacking merchandise from boxes, determining the correct selling price, and shelving or storing it
  • Replenishing merchandise as needed

Job Qualifications:

  • High School education or GED
  • One year of experience in a high-volume retail operation with an MBS point of sale system preferred
  • Ability to interact well with the general public, faculty, staff, and students
  • Flexibility and teamwork
  • Some weekend shifts may be required during peak periods
  • Ability to lift moderate weights at times
  • Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
