$5,007 - $6,359 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full-

Time Equivalent Salary Range:
$5,925 - $12,594 per month
Lecturer C/4 Full-

Time Equivalent Salary Range:
$6,500 - $13,831 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full-

Time Equivalent Salary Range:
$8,184 - $14,487 per month

The anticipated hiring range is typically at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, based on education and experience.

Position Summary:

The Department of Art and Art History in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is gathering application materials for a pool of lecturers, with positions available based on departmental needs throughout the academic year.

We are primarily seeking instructors to teach in-person courses. Appointments from the lecturer pool are temporary and are often made just before the academic term begins.

Minimum Qualifications:

The minimum educational requirement for a lecturer appointment is a degree in a relevant field (preferably a terminal degree).

Preferred Qualifications:

A terminal degree in a relevant field

Relevant experience may include:

previous teaching experience, particularly with diverse student groups; professional credentials, experience, and licenses; additional relevant skills and specializations. Bilingual candidates will be given preference.

Responsibilities:

Lecturers will be responsible for teaching one or more sections of courses for which they are deemed qualified by the Department Personnel Committee. Teaching assignments will be based on individual qualifications and departmental needs.

The Department:

The Department of Art and Art History is NASAD accredited.

The Department offers BA options in Art Education, Art History, and Art Studio; and a BFA program with options in Art Studio and Interior Architecture.

An MA is offered in Art History.

The faculty members in the Department of Art and Art History are a dedicated group of artists and scholars actively engaged in art, pedagogy, and community outreach.

Our students reflect the campus's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. They challenge boundaries and create reflective work for our galleries and other public venues that engage with contemporary issues. The department comprises twelve full-time faculty, a large pool of part-time faculty, and five staff members. The studio facilities are well-equipped with labs for ceramics, drawing, digital media, glass, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

Art History has strengths in Mesoamerican, Medieval, and Modern studies, with specialists in postcolonial and critical race studies, feminism and gender studies, structuralism, and semiotics.

Art Education has strengths in Cultural Diversity in Art Education and Pop Culture.

The Ira Latour Visual Resources Center is an award-winning learning/teaching center housing an extensive collection of books, periodicals, videos, and digital images.

Other important teaching resources include the Hopper Visiting Artists series and the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery, which hosts exhibitions of regional and nationally recognized artists.

The Janet Turner Print Museum produces exhibitions and maintains an extensive permanent study collection of over 4,000 prints from the 16th century to the present.

Chico is home to a vibrant arts community.

It is conveniently located three hours north of the Bay Area and one and a half hours north of Sacramento, providing easy access to major art activities.
