Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,925 - $12,594 per month
Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,500 - $13,831 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $8,184 - $14,487 per month

The anticipated hiring range is typically at or near the minimum of the respective range, depending on qualifications and experience. Most new lecturers are appointed at the Lecturer A or B rank.

Position Overview:

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is assembling a pool of lecturers for potential positions throughout the academic year, based on departmental needs. Appointments from this pool are temporary and may occur shortly before the academic term begins.

The department generally seeks part-time lecturers for the following general education courses:

  • GEOG 106: The American West
  • GEOG 301W: Global Economic Geography
  • GEOG 303: Geography and World Affairs
  • GEOG 304: Sustainability and Climate Change Issues
  • GEOG 305: Mobile, Wired, and Tracked: Our Digital Planet
  • GEOG 320: Introduction to Land Use Planning
  • GEOG 352: The United States
  • GEOG 427: Environmental Impact Analysis
Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree or higher in Geography or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution is required by the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with prior undergraduate teaching experience in Geography, especially in lower-division courses, laboratory settings, and/or online formats are preferred. Bilingual candidates will receive preference.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for lecturer positions include developing course materials, delivering instruction, assessing student performance, holding office hours, and creating syllabi. Proficiency in using a learning management system (Canvas) is expected. Teaching assignments will be determined based on individual qualifications and departmental needs.

The department offers two Bachelor of Arts degrees, four minors, and two certificates. Our dedicated faculty and staff support students in achieving a well-rounded and impactful educational experience. Many courses address sustainability and climate resilience, covering topics such as wildfire management, ecosystem health, food systems, civic engagement, urban development, and environmental policy. The department features a modern computer lab for geospatial technology and applied field opportunities at the University's ecological reserve.
