Position Summary:
Under the general oversight of the Director of Surgical Services and the Perioperative Services Manager, as well as the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator, the Orthopedic Surgical Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting and facilitating the care of patients undergoing invasive and other surgical interventions related to Orthopedic surgery.


This role embodies the desired Culture of Choice and philosophies of Parrish Medical Center Nursing.


Key Responsibilities:


Administrative Duties:

  • Oversee the scheduling of Orthopedic surgeries.
  • Procure and manage inventory of surgical instruments and related accessories.
  • Order and maintain necessary supplies pertinent to Orthopedic procedures.
  • Update and uphold Operating Room (OR)/Hospital protocols associated with Orthopedic surgery.
  • Manage and revise preference cards as needed.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain equipment, surgical trays, and case carts.
  • Prepare OR room setups for Orthopedic procedures to ensure timely starts.
  • Provide in-service training for OR Nursing and SPD staff on the management of Orthopedic surgical processes.

Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct clinical troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Facilitate efficient and organized surgical team setups for procedures.
  • Assist as a scrub nurse or first assistant at the patient’s side (if applicable).
  • Supervise patient preparation and positioning.
  • Maintain documentation of surgical procedure pathways and guidelines.
  • Record procedure outcomes and assist with data collection and management.
  • Support and engage new surgeons interested in Orthopedic surgery.
  • Develop and sustain a clinical pathway for Orthopedic surgical teams.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-service training for Sterile Processing regarding the cleaning and sterilization of instruments and accessories.
  • Act as the primary contact for Orthopedic-related inquiries (both Administrative and Clinical).
  • Serve as a liaison between the hospital, vendors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Perform similar or related duties as assigned.
  • Understand fire, disaster, and safety protocols relevant to the work environment.

Qualifications:


Formal Education:

  • Completion of vocational or technical school, certification, training, or apprenticeship beyond high school is required.

Work Experience:

  • 2 to < 3 years in an Operating Room setting; 1 to < 2 years in Orthopedic Surgery.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:

  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support Certification is required.
  • Advanced Life Support Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • First Assistant certification is preferred.
