Job Summary:

As a Senior Orthopedic Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our orthopedic team. Under the supervision of our Administrative Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor, you will perform a range of orthopedic procedures, including applying casts, splints, braces, and bandages, in various areas such as the cast room, emergency room, and operating room.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Orient and train new staff members on orthopedic procedures and techniques, ensuring they meet the highest standards of care.
  • Coordinate activities with other clinic and hospital functions, acting as a resource for non-department personnel in the care of orthopedic patients.
  • Recommend reorder points for cast room supplies and equipment, ensuring we have the necessary resources to provide optimal care.
  • Apply casts, splints, and braces, determining the proper positioning and type of device according to the provider's instructions.
  • Attend to patients during follow-up visits, applying casts and splints as assessed and ordered by the provider.
  • Set up traction apparatus, checking the condition of inpatients and notifying the provider as necessary.
  • Assist providers in the Operating Room, Emergency Room, and Cast Room, following sterile technique and ensuring patient safety.
  • Furnish, fit, and provide written instructions to patients on the use of crutches, canes, and other devices.
  • Maintain operational readiness of equipment and supplies, ensuring a clean and orderly work area.
Requirements:
  • One year of experience as an Ortho Tech within the past three years, with departmental skills validation for competencies.
  • Basic Life Support certification and Orthopedic Technologist Certificate from the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and apply most kinds of casts, braces, and traction.
