POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Engineering Team Leader is accountable for the comprehensive management of daily operations and the attainment of Select Industries Corp's strategic objectives, particularly within the engineering domain. This role encompasses overseeing engineering functions within the organization, executing and sustaining engineering goals and initiatives, and managing the development and enhancement of products associated with the engineering division.

This position directs and guides the efforts of personnel within the engineering team.

Key Performance Goals Include:
Supervision of new product design and development initiatives within the engineering division.
Primary engineering accountability for departmental projects – focusing on technical aspects.
Facilitating the upkeep and enhancement of existing Select products.
Mentoring team members in both technical and leadership competencies.
Engaging at the executive level to represent the engineering department's requirements.
Contributing to the strategic planning efforts of the organization.
Fostering relationships with engineering counterparts at client organizations.
Establishing and maintaining engineering department metrics for performance tracking and accountability.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties outlined are essential to the role and must be executed effectively to meet the key performance goals.

Interpersonal Duties:

  • Regularly communicates with the CEO, President, Quality Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Controller regarding objectives, challenges, and ongoing projects.
  • Provides training and coaching to employees on equipment, software, standards, and best practices related to product design and support.
  • Engages with team members regarding product development and maintenance efforts.
  • Maintains regular communication with clients to support product development or enhancement initiatives.

Operational Duties:


Responsible for reviewing and approving final engineering drawings or modifications released by the engineering team to ensure compliance with all design specifications and parameters.

Evaluates proposals or plans to ascertain timelines, funding constraints, methodologies for project execution, staffing needs, and allocation of resources across various project phases.

Develops work plans and staffing strategies for each project phase and coordinates recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
Collaborates with the engineering team to outline work plans and assign roles, responsibilities, and authority scopes.
Directs and synchronizes project personnel activities to ensure timely progress within budgetary constraints.
Consults with project teams to provide technical guidance and resolve issues.
Accountable for timely corrective actions and decisions regarding non-conforming materials through participation in review boards.
Interacts with clients' technical representatives to address technical concerns.
Assists Sales as needed with estimates/proposals, including engineering technical details, drawings, and development timelines.
Supports Sales during quote reviews, sales calls, and client visits as required.
Continuously communicates corporate information relevant to engineering functions as necessary for effective performance.

Organizational Duties:


Acts as a contributing member of the leadership team, collaborating with the General Manager and other executive team members.

Participates in the strategic planning process.
Cultivates a culture of performance, lean practices, and continuous improvement. Serves as a positive change agent for cultural transformation.
Owns the development and maintenance of Select products through engineering documentation.
Develops, maintains, and enhances engineering performance metrics. Provides data to the leadership team.
Must possess a clear understanding of regulations and procedures to ensure compliance with IAFT 16949 and ensure that engineering department practices align with standards.
Knowledge and experience in ISO AS9001 and ISO 13485 are preferred.
Continuously assesses the talent pool and overall capabilities of the department.
Conducts performance evaluations for direct reports. Identifies training needs, initiates professional development opportunities, and recommends effective action plans.

Establishes and implements training programs designed to enhance job-related knowledge and build skills necessary for superior performance.


Supervisory Duties:
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new engineering personnel.
Oversees the daily operations of the department.
Provides constructive and timely performance feedback.
