Ambulatory Care Assistant

This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, specifically in the Nursing and Patient Care Services of the Ambulatory Care Center.
The facility operates as a comprehensive healthcare provider, offering a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services, including specialized care in various medical fields.
Qualifications:To be eligible for this position, candidates must fulfill all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-In-Grade Requirement:
Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the past 52 weeks and meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-4 position, one year of service at the GS-3 grade level is necessary. Documentation of time-in-grade eligibility must be included with the application.
Specialized Experience:Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the normal line of progression for this occupation.
Specialized experience includes:
- Managing specimens accurately and transporting them to labs as required.
- Obtaining and delivering blood and blood products promptly.
- Assisting in emergency situations, such as cardiac arrest and shock, under the supervision of professional staff.
OR Education:
Successful completion of two years of study with at least 12 semester hours in relevant subjects, or a bachelor's degree with a focus on related fields.
OR Combination:An equivalent combination of post-high school education and specialized experience that meets the total qualification requirements for this grade level.
Competencies:Applicants will be evaluated on the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Critical Thinking, Customer Service, Emergency Care, Infection Control, Problem Solving, and Veteran and Customer Focus.
Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily sedentary, though some walking, standing, and light lifting may be required. No special physical demands are necessary to perform the duties of this role.
Responsibilities:
The Health Technician is an integral member of the Ambulatory Care team, providing support to registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with patient transport within the Ambulatory Care Center.
- Addressing basic patient inquiries and concerns, directing complex issues to appropriate staff.
- Adhering to infection control policies when handling specimens and equipment.
- Reporting any skin conditions or abnormalities to the relevant labs.
- Maintaining adequate stock levels of supplies and linens.
- Supporting room turnover by performing cleaning and preparing stretchers.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and enhancing personal knowledge through ongoing education.
Work Schedule:
Full-Time, Monday-Friday, with specific hours outlined by the department.
