Job OverviewSummary:
This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration, specifically in the Nursing and Patient Care Services sector of the Ambulatory Care Center.

Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, candidates must fulfill all criteria by the specified closing date.

Time-In-Grade Requirement:

Current Federal employees must have held a GS grade within the last year and meet time-in-grade standards.

For a GS-4 role, applicants should have completed 52 weeks at the GS-3 level in any occupation within the Federal service. An official document demonstrating time-in-grade eligibility must accompany the application materials.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the normal progression for this occupation.

Specialized experience includes:
- Accurate handling and transportation of specimens to laboratories.
- Timely retrieval and delivery of blood and blood products.
- Assisting in emergency situations, such as resuscitation efforts under professional supervision.

OR Education:

Completion of two years of study with at least 12 semester hours in relevant subjects.

A bachelor's degree or four years of education beyond high school with a focus on related subjects is also acceptable.

OR Combination:

A combination of post-high school education and specialized experience that meets the total qualification requirements for this grade level.


Competencies:
Applicants will be evaluated on the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Critical Thinking, Customer Service, Emergency Care, Infection Control, Problem Solving, and Veteran and Customer Focus. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer activities that provide relevant skills and knowledge.

Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily sedentary, with occasional requirements for walking, standing, and light lifting. No special physical abilities are necessary for this role.

Position Responsibilities:
The Health Technician is an integral member of the Ambulatory Care team, providing support to registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with patient transport within the Ambulatory Care Center.
  • Addressing basic patient inquiries and concerns, directing complex questions to appropriate staff.
  • Adhering to infection control protocols while handling specimens and equipment.
  • Monitoring and reporting any skin conditions to the relevant departments.
  • Maintaining adequate supplies and cleanliness in patient care areas.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to enhance patient care practices.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position with a standard schedule. Telework options are not available for this role.
