About the Role

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join our team. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.

Responsibilities
  • Review physician orders for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that all necessary information is present for MRI protocols.
  • Screen patients for MRI appropriateness and identify any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
  • Discuss findings with the physicist and radiologist as necessary, and consult with the radiologist to determine appropriate sequences, parameters, and other modifications to MRI protocols.
  • Document changes and updates in the electronic health record, ensuring that all relevant information is accurately recorded and easily accessible.
  • Interview patients, conduct patient screening, and obtain medical history related to procedures, explaining the procedure and instructing patients on necessary requirements for diagnostic images.
  • Assist physicians as needed in performing procedures, ensuring that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and efficiently, completing exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner.
  • Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as necessary, observing patients for adverse reactions and ensuring their safety during the exam.
  • Perform MRI exams, ensuring that patients meet safety requirements and do not have contraindications for MRI procedures.
  • Assist patients in dressing for exams and attend to their physical well-being while transporting to and from exam rooms and positioning for exams.
  • Communicate with patients and/or their families regarding tests to be performed, evaluating their ability to tolerate the exam and providing necessary support and guidance.
  • Perform QC testing and report problems with MRI systems and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership.
  • Maintain various data sets, including baseline scans, 12-month scans, and 24-month scans, and archive them as necessary.
  • Perform data calculations, scoring, and statistical analyses while following established QC standards for digital images, participating in accreditation imaging requirements.
  • Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function, spectroscopy analysis, and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
  • Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner, communicating shift hand-offs regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
  • Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads, actively participating in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
  • Function as a part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines, prioritizing exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat and urgent requests.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible practices regarding equipment, supplies, scheduling, overtime, and other departmental responsibilities.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
Requirements
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.
  • Two years of MRI experience preferred.
