Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist, PRN, to join our team at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing MRI procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort, and collaborating with radiologists and physicists to deliver high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Review physician orders for accuracy and completeness, and ensure that all necessary information is obtained before performing MRI procedures.
  • Screen patients for MRI appropriateness and review any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
  • Discuss findings with the physicist and radiologist as applicable, and consult with radiologists to determine appropriate sequences, parameters, and other technical requirements for MRI protocols.
  • Document changes and modifications to MRI protocols in the electronic health record, and ensure that all necessary resources, including nursing, are scheduled accordingly.
  • Interview patients, conduct patient screening, and obtain medical history pertaining to procedure clinical criteria, and explain procedures and requirements to patients.
  • Assist physicians as needed in performing procedures, and ensure that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
  • Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with age-specific criteria.
  • Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, and observe patients for adverse reactions.
  • Perform MRI procedures, ensuring that patients meet safety requirements and contraindications, and assist patients in dressing for exams and attending to their physical well-being while transporting to and from exam rooms and positioning for exams.
  • Communicate with patients and/or patient families (as appropriate) regarding tests to be performed, and evaluate patients' ability to tolerate procedures.
  • Perform QC testing and report problems with MRI systems and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, and correspond with physicists and imaging leadership as necessary.
  • Maintain various data sets, including baseline scans, 12-month scans, and 24-month scans, and archive data according to established standards.
  • Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function, spectroscopy analysis, and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
  • Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner, and communicate shift hand-offs regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
  • Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads, and actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
  • Function as a part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
  • Prioritize exams, scheduling exams to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat and urgent requests.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility with regards to equipment, supplies, scheduling, and overtime.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
Requirements
  • Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.
  • Two years of MRI experience preferred.
