We are seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to join our team at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As an MRI Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our imaging department.
Key Responsibilities- Review physician orders for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that all necessary information is present for MRI protocols.
- Screen patients for MRI appropriateness and review any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
- Discuss findings with the physicist and radiologist as applicable, and consult with the radiologist to determine appropriate sequences, parameters, and other necessary modifications to the MRI protocol.
- Document changes as appropriate in the electronic health record, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately recorded.
- Ensure that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
- Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, observing patients for adverse reactions.
- Perform MRI exams, ensuring that patients meet safety requirements and follow established protocols.
- Assist patients in dressing for exams and attend to their physical well-being while transporting to and from exam rooms and positioning for exams.
- Communicate with patients and/or their families regarding the tests to be performed and evaluate their ability to tolerate the exam.
- Perform QC testing and report problems with MRI systems and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership.
- Maintain various data sets, including baseline scans, 12-month scans, and 24-month scans, and archive them as necessary.
- Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including MIPing, MPR, 3-D rendering, qualitative and color mapping for breast imaging, ADC mapping and color mapping of diffusion scans, cardiac analysis to assess cardiac function, spectroscopy analysis, and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
- Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner, communicating shift hand-offs regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
- Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads and actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students, ensuring that procedures are performed according to set standards.
- Collaborate with other service lines to provide effective communication and care delivery for patient services.
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory compliance, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscal responsibility regarding equipment, supplies, scheduling, and overtime.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - ARRT (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC), by the first day of employment.
- Two years of MRI experience is preferred.
