Job Summary:

The Laboratory Services Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the clinical laboratory department, ensuring compliance with laboratory work processes and quality standards. This role will supervise laboratory personnel, make personnel decisions, and provide technical and scientific oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coach, and review the performance of laboratory personnel to ensure adherence to relevant policies and ethics.
  • Oversee designated laboratory day-to-day operations and exercise authority over personnel decisions.
  • Analyze and interpret laboratory results in accordance with established laboratory work processes.
  • Administer laboratory inventories, including supplies, equipment, and consumables.
  • Select test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results.
  • Verify test procedures performed and establish the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
  • Enroll and participate in an HHS-approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.
  • Establish a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establish parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance.
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Ensure patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Identify training needs and assure that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education.
  • Qualify and function as the CLIA-defined Technical Consultant, evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences, as defined by CLIA.
  • Minimum of five years at a moderate or high complexity laboratory.
  • Preferred experience as a supervisor or higher.
  • Required licensure and certifications vary by state and laboratory department.
  • Extensive knowledge in state and federal regulations is necessary to ensure ongoing compliance.
