Deputy Bureau Chief

The City of New York is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Bureau Chief to lead the Homicide Bureau. As a key member of the District Attorney's Office, this individual will play a critical role in investigating and prosecuting homicides in the Bronx.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with the Bureau Chief to ensure the smooth operation of the Homicide Bureau and efficient resolution of legal and administrative issues.
- Work closely with law enforcement agencies, including the NYPD, State, and Federal agencies, to investigate and prosecute homicides.
- Provide guidance and support to attorneys and support staff on all facets of homicide cases.
- Conduct case conferences and reviews to ensure effective case management.
- Interact with members of the community and victims' families to provide support and guidance.
- Respond to calls and scenes on a 24-hour basis to provide critical support to law enforcement agencies.
- Authorize plea offers and provide legal advice to ensure the best possible outcomes for cases.
- Manage a caseload efficiently and effectively to ensure timely and effective prosecution of homicides.
- Assist in creating and maintaining Homicide Bureau statistics to track and analyze case outcomes.
- Oversee the preparation and presentation of cases to the grand jury to ensure effective prosecution.
- Oversee long-term and complex investigations to ensure thorough and effective prosecution.
- A Juris Doctorate degree and membership in good standing with the New York State bar.
- Minimum of 10 years of trial experience, including 5 homicide trials as first chair.
- U.S. citizenship and New York State residency required.
- Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Firm knowledge of and experience with New York's Penal Law and Criminal Procedures Law.
- Extensive trial and investigative experience.
- Exemplary ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Excellent people and supervisor skills and demeanor.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, planning, and communications skills that build and sustain effective working relationships at all levels of the Office.
- Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively with personnel at all levels of the Office.
