Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Bureau Chief to lead the Homicide Bureau. As a key member of the District Attorney's Office, this individual will play a critical role in investigating and prosecuting homicides in the Bronx.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Bureau Chief to ensure the efficient resolution of legal and administrative issues
  • Work closely with law enforcement agencies, including NYPD, State, and Federal agencies
  • Provide guidance on charging decisions and oversee the drafting of complaints
  • Conduct case conferences and reviews, and interact with community members and victims' families
  • Authorize plea offers and provide legal advice
  • Manage a caseload efficiently and effectively
  • Assist in creating and maintaining Homicide Bureau statistics
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of cases to the grand jury
  • Lead long-term and complex investigations
Requirements
  • Juris Doctorate degree and member in good standing of N.Y. State bar
  • Minimum of 10 years trial experience
  • Minimum of 10 felony jury trials, including 5 homicide trials as first chair
  • U.S. citizenship and New York State residency required
  • Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
  • Firm knowledge of and experience with New York's Penal Law and Criminal Procedures Law
  • Extensive trial and investigative experience
  • Exemplary ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Excellent people and supervisor skills and demeanor
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, planning, and communications skills
  • Ability to think creatively and work collaboratively with personnel at all levels of the Office
