Position Overview

The Patient Safety, Advocacy, and Risk Management Consultant is responsible for comprehensive data management within the Midas Event Reporting system and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA PSRS). This role includes external reporting obligations to PA PSRS and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH), alongside generating analytical reports from these databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize the ECRI database to ensure vital information is disseminated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and investigations into patient complaints and grievances, addressing submissions made to both internal departments and external entities such as PA DOH, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Employ just culture principles to participate in or lead patient safety initiatives, including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and adverse event investigations.
  • Educate healthcare staff on departmental functions, RCA action plans, legal insights, and best practices for enhancing patient safety and mitigating risks.
  • Oversee the implementation and documentation of action plans following adverse events, ensuring compliance with Temple University Hospital, Inc. policies and standards.
  • Strive to enhance patient safety, quality of care, patient satisfaction, and minimize risks through all assigned activities.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
  • Master's Degree in a healthcare-related field (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years in acute care settings (Required)
  • At least 2 years in Risk Management, Quality, Performance Improvement, and/or Patient Safety initiatives (Preferred)
  • General experience in Patient Safety activities such as RCA, FMEA, Peer Review, Rapid Cycle PDSA, and Performance Improvement methodologies (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications:

  • PA Registered Nurse License (RN-LIC) (Required)
