Patient Safety and Risk Management Advisor

Position Overview
The Patient Safety, Advocacy, and Risk Management Specialist is tasked with overseeing data management within the Midas Event Reporting system and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA PSRS). This role includes external reporting obligations to PA PSRS and the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH), alongside generating reports and conducting data analysis from these databases.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize the ECRI database to ensure critical information is disseminated to relevant stakeholders.
- Review and investigate patient complaints and grievances, providing assistance in responses directed to the department or external entities such as PA DOH, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
- Engage in patient safety initiatives using just culture principles, participating in or leading processes such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and adverse event investigations.
- Educate staff on departmental activities, RCA action plans, legal insights, and best practices for patient safety and risk mitigation.
- Ensure that action plans developed in response to adverse events are implemented effectively and documented in accordance with established policies and standards.
- Strive to enhance patient safety, quality of care, patient satisfaction, and minimize risks through all activities undertaken.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Master's Degree in a healthcare-related field (Preferred)
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in acute care settings (Required)
- At least 2 years in Risk Management, Quality, Performance Improvement, or Patient Safety activities (Preferred)
- General experience in Patient Safety activities such as RCA, FMEA, Peer Review, Rapid Cycle PDSA, and Performance Improvement methodologies (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications:
- PA Registered Nurse License (RN-LIC) (Required)
