Position Overview:
Under the general oversight of the Financial Grants Manager, the incumbent will manage financial transactions, oversee general accounting practices, and ensure compliance with financial controls, along with other related financial responsibilities as required.

Educational Requirements:
Must possess an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.

Core Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with strong analytical capabilities. Proficient knowledge in general accounting principles, budgeting, payroll, and computerized accounting systems. Exceptional prioritization skills to manage multiple deadlines effectively. A keen attention to detail is essential.

Transportation Requirements:
Access to reliable transportation is necessary.

Professional Experience:
A minimum of two to three years of accounting experience is required, ideally within a non-profit environment. Experience should encompass knowledge of financial reporting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the role may be considered at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.

Licenses/Certifications:
A valid Michigan Driver's License is required.

Training:
Training will be provided as necessary.

Problem Solving and Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues. High-level problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential. The role promotes teamwork and requires participation as a team member with other agency staff.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
The candidate must be diligent and alert in a fast-paced and often demanding environment. Ability to maintain focus and concentration despite interruptions is necessary. The role requires the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.

Key Responsibilities:
- Reconcile General and Payroll bank accounts monthly, ensuring cash balances align with the General Ledger and making necessary adjustments.
- Reconcile subsidiary accounts, including the Head Start Policy Council account and other minor accounts.
- Enter VOID checks monthly and maintain the sequential order of check numbers and cash receipts.
- Ensure timely and accurate billing to various funding sources, including reviewing contracts for reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Reconcile Accounts Receivable and Revenue by Fund at month-end, preparing work papers for outstanding amounts due.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly journal entries and maintain a log of recurring entries to ensure completeness at month-end.
- Assist Financial Grant Managers with fiscal year-end closing, including compiling work papers for various grants.
- Maintain the Vendor Database by entering new vendors and updating vendor information, collecting IRS Form W-9s, and preparing Tax Exempt forms.
- Review Non-Federal in-kind contributions as required by grantors, adhering to established financial policies and procedures.
- Enter budgets and adjusting journal entries in accounting software as directed by the Financial Grants Managers or CFO.
- Prepare miscellaneous invoices for vendors as assigned.
- Serve as a backup for the Accounts Payable function.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Financial Grants Managers or CFO.

Other Requirements:
Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check following a job offer and may be required to complete an agency physical and TB test.

Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Financial Grants Manager.
